What is keratin powder?

Keratin is a fibrous structural protein found primarily in epithelial cells in the outer layer of the skin, as well as in the hair, nails, horns, hooves, and feathers of animals. It plays a vital role in providing structural support and protection, and is particularly important in the epithelium. Keratin also regulates key cellular activities, such as cell growth and protein synthesis. There are two main types of keratin: alpha-keratin and beta-keratin, which differ in their secondary structure and the geometry of their polypeptide chains. Alpha-keratin is found primarily in the hair, skin, and wool of mammals, while beta-keratin is found in birds and reptiles. The amino acid composition of keratin varies depending on the tissue and its function, and cysteine residues play an important role in the stability of keratin due to the formation of disulfide bonds.

First, we process the raw material to remove impurities while keeping the keratin intact. It then undergoes hydrolysis, a process that breaks down the wool fibers just enough to release the keratin.
